Day 1. Kakadu
National Park,
Ubirr Art Site, East Alligator River
Cruise.
Today
enter stunning World Heritage-listed Kakadu
National Park,
and visit the ancient Aboriginal art sites
of Ubirr to see preserved rock art. Following
lunch join the famous Guluyambi Cruise and,
accompanied by an Aboriginal guide, cruise
the East Alligator River.
With special permission, take a short walk
into Arnhem Land.
Two
Night Stay: Kakadu National Park, Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn.

Day 2. Jim
Jim Falls, Twin Falls, Kakadu.
Travel
by 4-wheel drive to the edge of the Arnhem
Land escarpment and beautiful Jim Jim Falls,
one of the largest waterfalls in the park.
Enjoy a bushwalk through monsoonal forest
surrounded by towering cliffs. Continue along
the winding sand track to Twin Falls Gorge
where there is time to explore. (L)
Day 3. Arnhem
Land by 4WD.
Journey
across the East Alligator River
into Arnhem Land. Aboriginal-owned,
Arnhem Land is one of the most remote and
least traversed regions of Australia.
Travel to the rarely visited Mikinj Valley
with its sandstone outcrops, escarpments,
floodplains and billabongs. With special permission
from the Manilakarr people, visit places inaccessible
to most. Hear of traditional land ownership,
learn bush skills of hunting and gathering
and learn how to prepare bush tucker. View
ancient Aboriginal art in its untouched natural
state – without fences or barriers. Most tours
are led or accompanied by an Aboriginal guide.
Returning to Darwin,
stop at Window on the Wetlands Visitor Centre
and enjoy a glass of wine while overlooking
the lush floodplains. (L)
Note:
Injalak Arts and Craft Association is visited
only on weekdays. Injalak is not open weekends
and public holidays and may be closed for
cultural reasons. If Injalak is closed you
will visit Cannon Hill and Hawk Dreaming in
Kakadu instead. This alternative also applies
when seasonal flooding and tides prevent crossing
the East Alligator River.
