A two day camping tour to Bathurst Island provides a unique opportunity to experience a modern day Aboriginal community and learn about the history and the culture of the Tiwi People from a local resident’s perspective, plus the adventure of camping in a remote location and learning more about the way of life on the Island.

The Tiwi Islanders have been welcoming tourists to their island for nearly 20 years. If you are looking for a real Aboriginal culture exchange this is it! There are no touristy gimmicks, tacky souvenir shops or high tech staged performances. You’ll visit the modern day Aboriginal community of Nguiu (pronounced new-you) with a population of 2000 and be shown around by a local guide. For those who want a more hands on experience camp overnight in the northern part of the island and participate in traditional food hunting and gathering.
