This superb small group safari-style camping tour visits a wide range of environments at the ideal times of day for a true appreciation of Kakadu National Park. With special permission of the traditional custodians, we have been granted exclusive overnight access to the Aboriginal land of Hawk Dreaming in which we have built an exclusive safari camp. This area abounds with many examples of ancient rock art and occupation sites with no fences or crowds. With the guidance and permission of the Aboriginal owners of Hawk Dreaming, our Guides will introduce you to this special place.

The camp features twin bedded tents with standard size beds, ceiling fans, lighting, sheets, blankets, pillows and clean modern ablution facilities. Hearty meals are prepared and served by our on site staff in a truly unique and safe bush setting where you’ll be captivated by the simply stunning sunsets. With a maximum group size of only 16 people, you’ll receive truly personalised service. We use deluxe air-conditioned 4WD vehicles with forward facing seating for your comfort.

What to Bring:

Comfortable non-slip walking shoes, In a small bag (due to space limitations): swimwear, towel, sunscreen, hat, personal requisites, camera with plenty of film, water bottle and insect repellent.

What's Included:

Air-conditioned vehicle (group size 4-16 passengers), 2 nights accommodation at Hawk Dreaming camp featuring flushing toilets and showers, tents are elevated, large and roomy with comfortable matresses and bed linen, all meals as stated above, iced water throughout tour, Yellow Waters Wetlands Cruise and a compentent resident guide.

Fitness Level: This tour requires a high level of fitness as there is some walking and climbing required in Kakadu National Park. Access to Jim Jim/Twin Falls requires the ability to walk over rough terrain.
Suitability: This tour is suitable for all with a good level of fitness and agility, as this tour is more adventurous.
Disabled Facilities: Some facilities available, please check with reservations for details. No wheelchair access into some sites and waterfalls.

More This Tour: Hawk Dreaming - timeless land dominated by escarpments, billabongs, floodplains and many ancient and sacred sites. Be privileged to spend time exploring the remote and private homelands of the Bunidj Aboriginal people with your guide. See secluded rock art and occupation sites and learn about the traditional life of the original inhabitants of the land.

Explore the World Heritage area of Ubirr Rock where we climb up through the ancient Aboriginal art sites to the top to view the surrounding wetlands, floodplains and escarpment. o Includes guided walks through the various ecosystems of Kakadu National Park. Your guide will give you a greater understanding of the flora and fauna of the region and take you on a journey through time at some of the world's most ancient rock art.
Experience a Top End sunset on the escarpment to see the changing colours and panoramic views. Yellow Waters wetlands cruise. An opportunity to see some of the interesting birdlife and crocodiles and the grandeur of the wetlands.
Jim Jim Gorge. Walk up the rugged Jim Jim Gorge over boulders and beneath towering escarpments to the plunge pool at the end of the gorge.
Barramundi Gorge (Maguk). Spend some time exploring this majestic area. Take a walk through a pleasant paperbark forest to a stunning freshwater pool at the base of a small waterfall. Enjoy a refreshing swim or just relax in the spectacular surroundings. There is also the opportunity to climb to the top of the falls and explore the rock pools. o Travel along the old Jim Jim Road (dirt) stopping at points of interest such as, White Lily Billabong and the South Alligator River Crossing. Itinerary may alter due to seasonal or access conditions.
We use deluxe airconditioned 4WD vehicles with forward facing seating for your comfort. All meals are included and our quality camping equipment includes easy to erect dome tents with comfortable twin bedded standard size beds, sheets, blankets and pillows.

ITINERARY: This superb small group safari-style camping tour visits a wide range of environments for a true appreciation of Kakadu National Park. This area abounds with many examples of ancient rock art and occupation sites with no fences or crowds. With the permission of the Aboriginal owners of Hawk Dreaming, our guides will introduce you to this special place. With a maximum group size of only 16 people, you'll recieve truly personalised service. We use deluxe air-conditioned 4WD vehicles with forward facing seating for your comfort.

Day 1:

Hawk Dreaming
Depart Darwin and travel to Kakadu National Park. En route, we will take a break at the Bark Hut Inn, an interesting outback pub. We'll visit the Bowali Visitor Centre – Kakadu National Park Headquarters, where the displays will introduce you to the many different ecosystems that make up this World Heritage National Park. Afterwards we visit Ubirr Rock, where your guide will interpret some of the meanings behind the ancient Aboriginal rock art found through the galleries. A short climb will take you to a lookout with panoramic views over the surrounding landscape and the lands of Hawk Dreaming. From here travel to Hawk Dreaming for lunch, and settle in to our exclusive camp before spending the afternoon in the Hawk Dreaming area. We'll explore the land of the Bunitj people. Here intimate rock art sites can be explored without fences or crowds, with time to soak up the spiritual atmospher of the area. Sit and learn in outdoor "classrooms" just like the Aboriginals have done for thousands of year, and after enjoying the sunset from a nearby vantage point, return to our exclusive camp.

Day 2:

Jim Jim Gorge
After breakfast this morning, we travel to Jim Jim Gorge by 4WD track. Jim Jim Gorge is at the edge of the imposing Arnhem Land Escarpment, reached by a narrow dirt 4WD track. Bush walk through the shady moonson forest and climb over boulders through the impressive gorge to reach the plunge pool for a well earned, refreshing swim and time to savour the majestic beauty of the gorge. Access to Jim Jim Gorge is by a 900 metre walk over rocks. Enjoy a picnic lunch out in the bush. Return to Hawk Dreaming Camp in the evening and overnight at our exclusive safari camp.

(In the event seasonal conditions prevent access to Jim Jim Gorge, alternative touring will be arranged.)

Day 3:

Yellow Water Wetlands
In the early morning light bid goodbye to Hawk Dreaming and head south to Coonida, home of the Yellow Water Wetland Cruise. Here you have the opportunity to spot for crocodiles, birds and other wildlife. We then travel to Barramundi Gorge (Maguk) where a short walk through a paperbark forest bring you to the base of this picturesque waterfall. We'll have lunch here before beginning the journey back to Darwin along the Old Jim Jim Road, an historic 4WD track. We'll drive through the South Alligator River along this track before rejoining the Arnhem and Stuart Highways. You will be returned to your Darwin accommodation the the late afternoon. (B,L)
