From December
to March the North of Australia enters the “wet season”. Whilst
90% of our annual rainfall will fall within this period it
should not discourage you from visiting. The countryside comes
alive turning a lush green with waterfalls thundering from
the top of the escarpment.
You may
also be lucky enough to witness some truly spectacular lightning
and thunder storms. In a tropical climate such as this the
majority of rain comes with monsoon storms typically in the
early morning and late afternoon but rain may not fall for
days on end.
At this
time of the year our itineraries and daily activities change
to cope with the varying climate.
Itinerary
Day
1
We depart
your Darwin accommodation around 0700 hours and travel East
along the Arnhem Highway towards Kakadu National Park.
After
crossing the South Alligator Floodplains we arrive at Ubirr
Rock. There your guide will interpret some of the Aboriginal
Rock Art and there is an opportunity to climb to the top for
a magnificent 360 degree view off the park. After lunch we
continue our journey and visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre.
Here you will learn more about the traditional owners of the
park, their culture, beliefs and lifestyles.
The night’s
accommodation is at Gagadju Lodge Cooinda.

|
|
Day
2
This morning
we awake to embark on a sunrise cruise of the world famous
Yellow Water Wetlands. There is an opportunity to view the
myriad birdlife that live on the wetlands and also the awesome
salt water crocodile.
Our jouney
continues into the southern, less visited section of Kakadu
known as “Stone Country”.
A visit
to the spectacular waterfall at Gunlom will surely be a highlight.
Gunlom was made famous in the movie “Crocodile Dundee” as
Echo Pool. Here we have the opportunity to hike to the top
of the waterfalls and explore the beautiful rock pools as
well as take in the spectacular views of the Arnhem Escarpment.
Leaving
Kakadu to continue Westward to the historic mining settlement
of Pine Creek, site of a major gold rush a century ago and
still a gold mining town today. We have a brief look around
town before heading to our overnight accommodation at Lake
Bennett Wilderness Resort.
Day
3
After
breakfast we travel into Litchfield National Park. Our first
stop is Wangi Falls where we can take a swim in the plunge
pool or walk and explore the surrounding monsoon rainforest.
We also visit Tolmer Falls lookout.
After
lunch we travel onto Florence Falls, perhaps the prettiest
of them all. There is also the opportunity to view the unique
magnetic termite mounds before we leave the National Park
and continue on to Darwin. We arrive back in Darwin, around
17:00
Please
Note: In the months of December to April some areas (Gunlom
and Ubirr) can be inaccessible due to flooding. In these instances
substitute areas will be visited. Child prices (when sharing
with adults) are available on application and subject to availability.

Odyssey guides are educated professionals. All are naturalist
guides with various interests and knowledge who have a
passion for the Top End.
-
We
operate with a number of licenses that give us special
access to restricted area ie: Koolpin Gorge, Graveside
Gorge in Kakadu National Park, Minjungari in Litchfield
Nationa Park, Manyallaluk Aboriginal Community south of
Katherine.
-
Our
itineraries are set at a slower pace than most as our
philosophy is to offer not just a sightseeing tour but
a wilderness experience that will enlighten, educate and
enrich our guests.
-
Dinner

wine glasses etc. All diets are catered for - prior advised
