Koolpin Gorge in Kakadu National Park

Our program of two-, three-, five- and seven-day tours of the Top End allows you to travel with a small group of like-minded people from all around the world. These tours depart on a regular basis, with a minimum of two passengers and a maximum of 10 or 12. Our scheduled camping tours are "participative" in that while there's no hard work, the success of a tour does rely on all passengers participating in general camp duties but of course your Camp Host will do all the cooking.

We are committed to providing you with a low participant: staff ratio ensuring you will always experience a high level of service. Moderate fitness is required to ensure you get the most out camp.

We do have a three-day tour to Litchfield and Kakadu National Parks on which you can stay in quality lodge accommodation in the evenings. We're sure that you will find an itinerary to suit your needs, but if you don't, please have a look at our private "classic" options, as these can be tailored to your individual requirements.

(Koolpin Gorge)

Koolpin Gorge in the southern reaches of Kakadu is a restricted access area. Odyssey safaris is fortunate to be one of just 3 commercial tour operators who hold licenses to operate in the area. Access to the area is restricted to no more than 40 people at a time. Commercial tour operators visit the area on a roster basis.

It is a truly spectacular part of Kakadu known by some as the "Jewel in the Crown of Kakadu", activities include bush walking, swimming and bird watching. This area is known by the Jawoyn traditional owners as the "sickness country".

It is of particular significance to the Jawoyn people and is the dreaming place of the mythical Jaywon creator figure "Bulla". Bullas's spirit remains in many caves in the area. These caves are most sacred areas and are not to be disturbed. Any disturbance to these "Bulla sites" can result in cataclysmic repercussions as Bulla becomes aggravated.

Your guide will explain in detail the story of Bulla and point out the various Bulla sites from a distance. When walking in the area it is important to obey any signs declaring "sacred sites" and to remain in the presence of your guide at all times. We are fortunate to be allowed into such a special place and must respect the wishes of the traditional owners.

THE ODYSSEY DIFFERENCE

Scheluded tours operate with a maximum of just 10 or 12.
Operating 3 permanently established camps - two in Kakadu National Park and one Litchfield National Park. All camps have large "airy tents' with raised wooden floors and 2 standard size signle beds. Camps are equiped with flushing toilets and insect proof dining shelters. Our Litchfiled camp 'Minjungari' is on an exclusive license.
Odyssey Tours and Safaris is a Savannah Guide "Master Operator". Odyssey guides are educated professionals. All are naturalist guides with various interests and knowledge who have a passion for the Top End.
We operate with a number of licenses that give us special access to restricted area ie: Koolpin Gorge, Graveside Gorge in Kakadu National Park, Minjungari in Litchfield National park, Manyallaluk Aboriginal Community south of Katherine.
Our itineraries are set at a slower pace than most as our philosophy is to offer not just a sightseeing tour but a wilderness experience that will enlighten, educate and enrich our guests.
Dinner time in camp is a candle lit affair with tablecoths, silerware, wine glasses etc. All diets are catered for - prior advised is required.
Each of our permanent private camps has it's own "Camp Host" ensuring the highest quality safari hospitality. Solar fridges at all camps and Solar fans in the dinning area if dining inside
