Tour
Guides
Our guides
are highly professional and are well versed on all aspects
of the Top End and the Kimberley region. Constant evaluation
programs ensure that our guides possess extensive knowledge
of the flora, fauna, geology and culture of these regions.
Most of our guides have been guiding for several years and
are very enthusiastic about showing passengers the local wildlife.
All guides hold current first aid certificates and have completed
training courses to guide in Kakadu National Park.
Discounts
Are granted
on the base price not the Pay On Board Local payments or accommodation.
Permit
Areas
Due to
our willingness to work with Aboriginal traditional owners
and our commitment to nature-based eco tourism, we are the
only small group tour operator with access to Upper Sandy
Creek Falls and Upper Tolmer Falls in Litchfield National
Park. We are also one of only a select few that have special
access to restricted areas such as Koolpin Gorge, Graveside
Gorge and Moline Rock Hole in Kakadu National Park. We also
hold a safari camp permit at Jim Jim Falls campground (Garnamarr).
Permit areas allow our passengers to experience Kakadu away
from the tourist throng.
Vehicles
To fully
enjoy what the Top End and the Kimberley have to offer, traveling
in a 4-wheel drive vehicle is mandatory. Our 4-wheel drive
vehicles range in size from 9-16 seats, so an emphasis is
placed on genuine small group tours. Our vehicles are regularly
serviced and maintained to minimize the risk of breakdowns
during any of our tours. All vehicles are air conditioned.
Camping
Equipment
Our tour
vehicles all tow trailers with the necessary equipment to
make your camping safari as comfortable as possible. We provide
swags (April - Nov), easy-to-erect tents, camp chairs, tables,
12 volt fluorescent lights, communal torches and eskies (ice
boxes to keep the food fresh and the drinks cold).
Food
Fresh
fruit and vegetables are available every day. Iced water is
available in the vehicle at all times (except Kimberley tours).
Breakfasts consist of cereals, toast with spreads, tea and
coffee. Lunch is usually a selection of cold meats and salad
or sandwiches. Dinner will be cooked on the campfire by your
guide, who is also a skilled open fire cook, with menus to
suit all tastes. We can easily cater for vegetarians - please
inform us when you book.
Passenger
Involvement
All tours
are designed to provide passengers with a 'hands on' wilderness
camping experience. It is therefore a necessary requirement
that all passengers participate in general camp duties such
as erecting tents, preparing meals, washing up, etc. Camp
duties are not strenuous, and full group participation allows
everybody more time for other more enjoyable activities.
Walking
Distances and Programs
Please
be advised that the programs and walking distances supplied
should only be used as a guideline and distances may vary
substantially. Your tour guides may change programs at their
discretion, due to extreme temperatures, safety issues or
to suit the specific interests of the group.
Campground
Facilities
As our
tours travel into remote areas away from the crowds, some
places we camp on our Kimberley tours have no facilities and
other areas only have basic toilet facilities without showers.
Fortunately we are swimming on most days so there is still
plenty of opportunity to freshen up. Our Kakadu and Top End
tours stay predominantly in campgrounds that have both toilet
and shower facilities available.
Passenger
Fitness Level
Our tours
have been designed to suit fit, active people mainly ranging
in age from 18-40 years. Tours are not available to any children
under the age of 13 and passengers who are over 50 must ensure
they are extremely fit if they wish to participate in any
of our tours. If you have any doubts regarding your level
of fitness, please discuss it with us directly.
