Through
the Finke River Floodout and across the NT-SA Border to Mt
Dare Hotel, a unique remote Oasis for man & birds in far
north South Australia. Dinner, Bed and Breakfast at Mt Dare
offers the opportunity to mingle with locals and Simpson Desert
Travellers.
Day
2 (B, L, D):
Birding
& nature walks for early risers around Mt Dare Hotel.
After a Homestead breakfast we travel through Witjira National
Park to Dalhousie Homestead ruins, where Pioneers operated
a Sheep Station in 1872. Smoko, swim & relax in the nearby
Dalhousie Thermal Springs. You will really begin to feel the
remoteness of the desert as we travel in ‘real’ camel country
to Federal, as the Afghans did over 100 years ago. Campfire
Lunch & Billy Tea amongst Sand Dunes & Mulga Scrub.
Return, via Blood Creek sheep station ruins, to Mt Dare Hotel
for a relaxing evening.

3 (B, L):
Farewells
at Mt Dare. Onto Finke Township where we run parallel to the
Old Ghan embankment and the finish line of the Finke Desert
Race Track. Bundooma to Alice Well. This Historical village
site (1887 to 1911) is accessed by only a small number of
Modern travellers. Northwards along beautiful Red Sand Track
which follows a remaining section of the Old Telegraph Line
to Titjikala. Continue our journey to the Historic Chambers
Pillar. Time here to walk, reflect and enjoy the remote and
beautiful outback desert region before retuning to Alice Springs.

4:
A
Day in Alice Springs to explore its many attractions or visit
the Desert Park.
Day
5 (L):
7.30am
departure from Alice Springs. west along the MacDonnell Ranges
to historic Hermannsburg ,to explore the ‘old world' village
that was once the home to Albert Namitjira and the Lutheran
Missionaries. Morning Tea in the Tea Rooms will be a delight
after you’ve taken in the incredible culture and history of
this preserved precinct. Off the beaten Track as we engage
4WD and head into the Finke Gorge National Park. A great ‘hideaway’
called Boggy Hole provides some awesome scenery, unique bird
watching and a place to swim at lunchtime. The rugged and
beautiful river scape of the Finke will carry us through to
our connecting tracks to the days destination, Kings Canyon.
Time to reflect over a cold drink on the days activities.
Day
6 (L):
You’ll
need to charge your energy cells with a good breakfast to
prepare yourself for the awesome Rim walk at Kings Canyon
or the less strenuous Valley walk among Cycads. We continue
Ossies’ format of “Tracks less Traversed” on our way to Uluru
(Ayers Rock). Ancient Desert Oaks (up to 800 years old) amongst
beautiful Red Sand Hills along a track not known by modern
travellers. Appreciate the solitude and quietness over our
Lunch stop then continue to Uluru. At sunset you’ll
enjoy chicken and champagne as the desert sky says ‘goodnight’
to the ever photogenic and colour changing ‘Rock’.

7 (B, L):
View
Sunrise at Uluru, base walks or climb. Our next stop
Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) for walks and sight seeing before departure
to Alice Springs.
