Outback Experience in Central Australia

7 Days

Accomodated Tour

Tour Details:

Daily Itinerary

Day 1 (L, D):

South East to our first stop the Aboriginal Community of Santa Teresa. See mirages and climb big red sand dunes that you’ve only imagined. Visit rare Acacia Peuce “Waddy Trees” in the driest part of Australia. Along the Old Andado Track to Molly Clarks Pioneer Homestead in the Simpson Desert. We traverse the Southern Hemisphere’s largest private Cattle Station “Andado”.

Experience the real outback

Through the Finke River Floodout and across the NT-SA Border to Mt Dare Hotel, a unique remote Oasis for man & birds in far north South Australia. Dinner, Bed and Breakfast at Mt Dare offers the opportunity to mingle with locals and Simpson Desert Travellers.

Day 2 (B, L, D):

Birding & nature walks for early risers around Mt Dare Hotel. After a Homestead breakfast we travel through Witjira National Park to Dalhousie Homestead ruins, where Pioneers operated a Sheep Station in 1872. Smoko, swim & relax in the nearby Dalhousie Thermal Springs. You will really begin to feel the remoteness of the desert as we travel in ‘real’ camel country to Federal, as the Afghans did over 100 years ago. Campfire Lunch & Billy Tea amongst Sand Dunes & Mulga Scrub. Return, via Blood Creek sheep station ruins, to Mt Dare Hotel for a relaxing evening.

Day 3 (B, L):

Farewells at Mt Dare. Onto Finke Township where we run parallel to the Old Ghan embankment and the finish line of the Finke Desert Race Track. Bundooma to Alice Well. This Historical village site (1887 to 1911) is accessed by only a small number of Modern travellers. Northwards along beautiful Red Sand Track which follows a remaining section of the Old Telegraph Line to Titjikala. Continue our journey to the Historic Chambers Pillar. Time here to walk, reflect and enjoy the remote and beautiful outback desert region before retuning to Alice Springs.

Day 4:

A Day in Alice Springs to explore its many attractions or visit the Desert Park.

Day 5 (L):

7.30am departure from Alice Springs. west along the MacDonnell Ranges to historic Hermannsburg ,to explore the ‘old world' village that was once the home to Albert Namitjira and the Lutheran Missionaries. Morning Tea in the Tea Rooms will be a delight after you’ve taken in the incredible culture and history of this preserved precinct. Off the beaten Track as we engage 4WD and head into the Finke Gorge National Park. A great ‘hideaway’ called Boggy Hole provides some awesome scenery, unique bird watching and a place to swim at lunchtime. The rugged and beautiful river scape of the Finke will carry us through to our connecting tracks to the days destination, Kings Canyon. Time to reflect over a cold drink on the days activities.

Day 6 (L):

You’ll need to charge your energy cells with a good breakfast to prepare yourself for the awesome Rim walk at Kings Canyon or the less strenuous Valley walk among Cycads. We continue Ossies’ format of “Tracks less Traversed” on our way to Uluru (Ayers Rock). Ancient Desert Oaks (up to 800 years old) amongst beautiful Red Sand Hills along a track not known by modern travellers. Appreciate the solitude and quietness over our Lunch stop then continue to Uluru. At sunset you’ll enjoy chicken and champagne as the desert sky says ‘goodnight’ to the ever photogenic and colour changing ‘Rock’.

Day 7 (B, L):

View Sunrise at Uluru, base walks or climb. Our next stop Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) for walks and sight seeing before departure to Alice Springs.
