Newhaven
Reserve is a unique & diverse area consisting of
many ecosystems. It is abundant with bird, plant &
wildlife. Ideal for specific interest groups - photographers,
artists, writers, bird watchers, etc. However, Newhaven
is well suited to anyone with a sense of adventure,
love of nature & a wish to experience the remote
outback.
Purchased by "Birds Australia" as a Bird & Wildlife
Sanctuary for over 138 Bird species, 5 of which are
threatened. The Reserve also shelters threatened Mammals
such as the carnivorous Mulgara, Black footed Wallaby
and the Marsupial Mole.

If
this is not enough the diverse & spectacular landscape
makes Newhaven Reserve a product of Nature not to be
missed. The Field Naturalist, Ornithologist, Artist
and those who love the Outback, will all find Newhaven
spectacular and unique.
June 2006 "Australian Wildlife Conservancy" took over
management of Newhaven. Birds Australia will continue
to assist in programmes relating to design and implementation
of bird conservation.
Now known as "Newhaven Wildlife Sanctaury" Australian
Wildlife Conservancy has implemented monitoring sites
that seek to discover habitat types. More information
can be found in December 2006 Edition of the Australian
Wildlife Conservancy Newsletter.

Day
1:
Depart Alice 9.00am ,30kms up the Stuart Highway to the Tropic
of Capricorn. Photo stop.Onto theTanami Road,running along
the Northern Edge of the MacDonnell Ranges. Driving through
Cattle Stations and the unique Mitchell grasslands of Amburla
Station. Refreshment stop at Tilmouth Well. Lunch en route.
On arrival to Newhaven set up Camp. Time for some exploring
before the evening meal.
Lunch and dinner are provided.
Day 2:
Full day 4WD exploring today. Visit places such as The Gorge;Honey
Eater hill and the Mesa. Return to camp approx 5.00pm.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided.
Day 3:
Pre Dawn departure for Breakfast. Birding at Freshwater
Bore. Leisurely meanderings along old station tracks. Birding
and exploring the Flora & Fauna of the Tanami Desert.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided.
Day 4:
A relaxed morning departure approx 9.00am setting off for
another day 4WD exploring. Visit Lake Bennet;Sand Dunes; Clay
Pans;Spinifex & Melaleuca areas. Return to camp approx
5.00pm.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided.
Day 5:
Depart Newhaven approx 10.00am. Turn south through Red Sand
Hills covered in Desert Oaks & Desert Poplars. Through
Papunya and remote ranges & gullies,ultimately onto the
bitumen at Glen Helen Resort. Refreshment stop. Return to
Alice Springs along the southern edge of the MacDonnell Ranges.
After breakfast a morning bush walk. A last meander along
Newhaven Tracks. Picnic Lunch before returning to Alice Springs.

and a reasonable level of fitness. Travel insurance is not
included. We strongly recommend that passengers arrange their
own travel insurance. 'Ossies' operates in remote areas, itineraries
