Day
1 (L, )
7.30am departure from Alice Springs. west along the MacDonnell
Ranges to historic Hermannsburg that was once the home to
Albert Namitjira and the Lutheran Missionaries.
Morning Tea in the Tea Rooms will be a delight after you’ve
taken in the incredible culture and history of this preserved
precinct.
Off the beaten Track as we head into the Finke Gorge National
Park. Boggy Hole provides some awesome scenery, unique bird
watching and a place to swim at lunchtime.
The rugged and beautiful riverscape of the Finke will carry
us onto Running Waters, where rare fish are seen on most trips.
Red Sand & ancient Desert Trees will be enjoyed by Ossies
travelers. We are the only Tour Company using these 4WD Tracks
regularly enroute to Kings Canyon. Kings Canyon arrival time
approx 7.00pm. Time to reflect over a cold drink on the days
activities.
• Overnight Accommodation at Kings Canyon Resort
Day 2 ( L,D )
You’ll need to charge your energy cells with a good breakfast
to prepare yourself for the awesome Rim walk at Kings Canyon
or the less strenuous Valley walk among Cycads & Rivergums.
We continue Ossies’ format of “Tracks less Traversed” on our
way to Uluru (Ayers Rock). Ancient Desert Oaks (up to 800
years old) amongst beautiful Red Sand Hills along a track
not known by modern travellers. Appreciate the solitude and
quietness over our Campfire Lunch in the middle of Harry’s
“highway” before continuing to Uluru.
At sunset you’ll enjoy nibbles and sparkling wine as the desert
sky says ‘goodnight’ to the ever photogenic and colour changing
‘Rock’.
• Overnight Accommodation at Yulara

vast expanse of the Finke River, 250 km’s downstream from
‘Boggy Hole’. We exit along the Finke Desert Race Track wondering

Day 5 (B, L, D):
Birding & nature walks for early risers around Mt Dare
Hotel. After a Homestead breakfast we travel through Witjira

operated a Sheep Station in 1872. Smoko, swim & relax
in the nearby Dalhousie Thermal Springs. You will really begin
to feel the remoteness of the desert as we travel in ‘real’
camel country to Federal, as the Afghans did over 100 years
ago. Campfire Lunch & Billy Tea amongst Sand Dunes &
Mulga Scrub. Return, via Blood Creek sheep station & wine
shanty ruins, to Mt Dare Hotel for a relaxing evening.

place in Australia – when marsupial mice are about, Letter
Winged Kites live here.
North beside a huge Red Dune, we depart the Simpson Desert
