5 Day Uluru - Red Centre “Kangaroo Dreaming” 4WD Safari
Itinerary - Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta (the Olgas), Watarrka (Kings Canyon),
Palm Valley and West MacDonnell Ranges

For the adventure traveller, the 'Breakaway' is the ultimate 4WD 5 day safari. As would be expected, we'll see Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), Watarrka (Kings Canyon), Palm Valley and the West MacDonnell Ranges. More importantly, we'll also get to truly experience the outback in an authentic way by really going 'wayoutback'; bush camping at remote campsites, driving a bush track through an old outback cattle station affording sensational views of the West MacDonnell Ranges and, visiting the Oak Valley Aboriginal Community. After experiencing the magic of Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), we go on a mind blowing 4WD expedition to Watarrka (Kings Canyon) through outback Cattle Stations, Curtin Springs and Kings Creek. Between the two they total more than 6,300 square kilometers.

Wayoutback is the only tour company using this direct route, negotiating over 130km of bush tracks through places only a few Aboriginals, early settlers and station workers have seen. This is a chance to really absorb the expanse and beauty of the Australian outback. Our experienced tour guides have all the required bush skills to keep you safe and comfortable. They are among the best in Central Australia because of their enthusiasm and ability to bring people together to have the best time. This is backed up with extensive local knowledge of land, the Aboriginal (Anangu) people and local history.

(For those commencing the tour at Uluru we will collect you from the airport or Ayers Rock Resort)

The first part of the day is spent driving to Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park with a few stops along the way for refreshments, a camel ride or a chance to purchase some Aboriginal paintings or artifacts. We break for lunch at our bush camp, situated amongst desert oak trees at the base of a large sand dune within Ayers Rock Resort.

The afternoon is devoted to enjoying the sites of Uluru, including a full base walk, a chance to climb or if you wish you can join the Aboriginal guided Kuniya Walk +. We’ll also visit the Cultural Centre where you can learn about the Tjukurpa (Aboriginal law / religion). Please note that the Kuniya Walk is in place of doing the base walk or climbing Uluru for clients that give priority to having a direct indigenous experience on tour.

It's then time to view the magnificent sunset on Uluru accompanied with a glass or two of sparkling wine before returning to the campsite for a delicious meal, a couple of drinks and time to sit back to contemplate the day's events.

Arriving in mid afternoon, we stop at a typical working cattle station before we travel to Kings Creek Station for our second nights bush camp. Our campsite at Kings Creek is miles from the crowds, which is where the feeling of Wayoutback really starts to take hold. After a campfire dinner it's time to kick back and be mesmerised by the millions of stars on display.

Indigenous Experiences Not to be Missed
The Oak Valley Aboriginal Community is an inspirational Aboriginal owned and operated tour business and community. The community boasts an olive and grape plantation, Aboriginal rock carvings and paintings and an ancient fossil field, all set in remote pristine desert country. You can learn about ancient myths and stories of their land, bush tucker, spear and boomerang throwing.

Learn From the Traditional Aboriginal Land Owners
Recently we introduced a new option at Uluru giving you the opportunity to experience and learn directly from the indigenous land owners of Central Australia. While at Uluru you can go on the Aboriginal guided Kuniya Walk+ where you will learn a great deal from Anangu about their mythological stories tied to Uluru and the intimate relationship they have with it. Please note that the Kuniya Walk is in place of doing the base walk or climbing Uluru for clients that give priority to having a direct indigenous experience on tour.
+ Cost additional to Wayoutback tour.

A Legacy to the Largest Landowner in the World
On our way from Oak Valley we travel through Owen Springs Reserve which was the first cattle station in this area. It was previously owned by Sydney Kidman who was, until his passing, the largest landowner in the world when not including governments or monarchy. We 4-wheel drive through Owen Springs, steadily climbing to a plateau which then opens out to the most breathtaking vista of the country below and West MacDonnell Ranges in the distance.
