El
Questro Homestead
4WD
Hire
El Questro is
situated in the East Kimberley 110km west of Kununurra by
road (58 km on the sealed Great Northern Highway towards
Wyndham, with the remainder on the unsealed and corrugated
gravel Gibb River Road).
Whilst
El Questro does provide return road transfers from Kununurra,
as well as guided tours, we strongly recommend that guests
consider hiring a 4WD during their stay at El Questro. A
4WD vehicle gives you the freedom and flexibility of exploring
the Wilderness Park, experiencing the magic of the Kimberley
at your own leisure.
You
could extend your 4WD hire to include the numerous attractions
in the Kimberley. This could include travelling the infamous
Gibb River Road from Kununurra to Derby and onto Broome,
return on the Great Northern Highway through Fitzroy Crossing,
Halls Creek and Turkey Creek.
Driving
Conditions
- Be
careful not to underestimate travelling time when driving
in the Kimberley. Allow an average speed of 80 km per
hour on sealed roads and 50 km per hour on unsealed roads.
-
Always ensure you carry adequate supplies of fuel, food
and in particular, water.
- Nearly
all of the Kimberley is cattle country, most roads are
unfenced, which means cattle, horses, and donkeys can
wander across the road at any time. Night driving can
be dangerous due to straying animals. Extreme care is
advised.
-
Large road trains (semi trailer with three other trailers)
can be up to 50 m long. Caution is recommended when overtaking
these vehicles.
