Itinerary
Day 1. Mon. Mt Macedon. Depart Melbourne, 180 Swanston
Street at 9.30 a.m. and travel via the airport. Interstate
travellers must be at Melbourne Airport by 9.30 a.m. to be
picked up at 10.00 a.m. We visit the Mt Macedon region to
see unique gardens not usually open to visitors. Take a fabulous
fresh ‘Potager to Plate’ demonstration cooking class and lunch
at Woodend. Sample award-winning Victorian cool climate wines.
Tonight enjoy a gourmet dinner at Campaspe House, set on 12
hectares of Edna Walling designed gardens and natural bushland
within the village of Woodend. Stay: Macedon Ranges, Campaspe
House, featuring its own historic Edna Walling country estate
garden. Lx1 Dx1
Meals: Not included
Day 2. Tue. Garden of St Erth, Mt Sturgeon, Southern Grampians.
Enjoy a visit to the Garden of St Erth this morning. The
site was originally a town of 13,000 people during the gold
rush. Now, 150 years later, there is just one remaining stone
cottage. The garden is one of Australia’s most exciting cool
climate gardens, with daffodils and other bulbs in September
and lupins and oriental poppies in flower in December. The
2-hectare garden is home to an extensive collection of rare
and unusual plants. After strolling the gardens continue via
Ballarat to the Southern Grampians region. Visit a country
garden, exploring the beautiful landscaped garden and grounds
of Mt Sturgeon. Here we can see plantings that are in sympathy
with the natural environment, and unique Grampians vegetation
including many species of wildflower specific to the region.
Two Night Stay: Dunkeld, the award-winning Royal Mail
Hotel, with magnificent views of Mt Sturgeon.
Meals: Bx1 Dx1
Day 3. Wed. Western District Gardens, Geelong.
This morning we visit Green Hills Garden with its impressive
roses and intricate borders surrounding the historic house.
Continue to Noorat to the grand English garden of Dalvui and
then to the ‘dry and unusual’ garden of Wigandia recently
featured on ‘Gardening Australia’ as one of their favourite
gardens. Stroll around the Geelong Botanic Gardens with its
original English garden and the new ‘dry’ $2 million, 21st
Century Garden.
Stay: Geelong, Sheraton Four Points Geelong Hotel, overlooking
Corio Bay.
Meals: Bx1 Lx1 Dx1
Day 4 Thur. Mornington Peninsula, Heronswood Master Class.
Cruise across Port Phillip Bay to Sorrento and Heronswood,
home of the Diggers Club, for a delicious ‘Fork to Fork’ lunch
and a personalised tour of the garden. Attend a Master Class
plant lecture and learn about edible plants and becoming more
water-wise with our plant use and plant design. Return to
Melbourne arriving at 180 Swanston Street at 5.00 p.m. and
continue to Melbourne Airport at 6.00 p.m. for flights departing
after 6.30 p.m. this evening.
Meals: Bx1 Lx1
