Tassie Adventure - 7 Days - Devonport/Launceston to Devonport/Launceston
Itineraries may vary due to seasonal weather conditions.
DAY 1: DEVONPORT/LAUNCESTON TO ST. HELENS
4 & 7 Day passengers travelling on the Spirit of Tasmania will be met on arrival in Devonport. Then we hit Tassie’s back roads on our way to Exeter on the banks of the Tamar River. Panoramic views from “Brady’s Lookout” before we reach Launceston. Now we venture into Tassie’s far north east region via the old gold mining town of Derby. Next we venture off the main route and head for Mt William National Park and the magnificent Bay of Fires. This afternoon we will take time to do some walking in these coastal reserves and spectacular beaches with a beachside barbecue to finish the day (subject to weather conditions). Then to St. Helens for our overnight stop. (D) Overnight: Hotel
DAY 2: ST. HELENS TO TRIABUNNA VIA FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK
Great coastal views today as we travel down Tassie’s East Coast. We detour briefly “off road” into the Scamander Tiers for a different view of one Tasmania’s more inaccessible areas. Next stop, the coastal village of Bicheno where we visit two natural attractions, the local boat harbour known as “The Gulch” and also the “Blowhole”. Then to beautiful Coles Bay, situated beside Freycinet National Park, an area dominated by granite mountains and secluded bays. We’ll get awesome views from Cape Tourville before the opportunity exists to undertake some of the great walks available here. Two of the more popular are to the summit of Mt Amos, or to the much photographed Wineglass Bay. Our late afternoon drive takes us via Swansea and then Triabunna, another coastal town with sweeping views across Mercury Passage to Maria Island. (B, D) Overnight: Motel
DAY 3: TRIABUNNA TO HOBART VIA PORT ARTHUR
Departing Triabunna this morning we cross the Prosser River and head south through the forests of South Eastern Tasmania. We will get to wander through Wielangta Forest on our way to the Tasman Peninsular and the historic site of Port Arthur. Our guided tour here gives a great insight into the harsh conditions experienced by the inmates of this former penal settlement. The surrounding area is blessed with some impressive coastline and natural features such as Tessellated Pavement, Tasman’s Arch and Remarkable Cave. After exploring the Tasman Peninsula it’s time to head to Hobart, Australia’s second oldest city and the Capital of Tasmania. (B, D) Overnight: Motel
DAY 4: HOBART
A morning visit to the Cadbury Chocolate Factory* is a great start to the day, followed by a drive to the summit of Mt Wellington for stunning views. An optional bike ride from the top is good fun. Visits to Constitution Dock and Salamanca Place complete our sightseeing. 4 Day passengers leave us here. Tonight a meal out at a local restaurant. (B) Overnight: Motel *Cadbury Chocolate Factory is closed for maintenance at Christmas and Easter. Please check our website for dates
DAY 5: HOBART TO STRAHAN
Now to Mt Field National Park. A short walk through a temperate rainforest to the scenic Russell falls is a must. Continuing through the Central Highlands, we visit Lake St. Clair National Park and then on to the mining town of Queenstown. Our final destination is Strahan situated on the banks of Macquarie Harbour and gateway to the west coast wilderness. (B, D) Overnight: Lodge
DAY 6: STRAHAN TO CRADLE MOUNTAIN
After taking in the sights of Strahan, we make a stop at the Henty Dunes where the option exists to try a quad bike for a thrilling ride over these massive sand dunes. Further north, we take time away from the sealed roads and explore the old mining region of Zeehan and the wild and remote Trial Harbour. Here some of the wildest seas in the world lash a rugged coastline. Continuing on Tassie’s backroads our next stop is Montezuma Falls – some of the highest in Tasmania. The walk here through some beautiful temperate rainforest is impressive indeed. Our late afternoon drive up Tassie’s remote West Coast and inland to Cradle Mountain provides great mountain scenery. Tonight we can view the nocturnal activities of some of Tasmania’s unique wildlife including the elusive Tasmanian Devil. (B, D) Overnight: Lodge
DAY 7: CRADLE MOUNTAIN TO LAUNCESTON/DEVONPORT
Time to explore the northern section of Tasmania’s most famous national park. Then via rolling farmlands to Launceston and the end of our Tassie Adventure. Those passengers returning on the Spirit of Tasmania will be transferred to Devonport. (B)

Will I be collected and dropped off at my accommodation?
Connections have designated pick up and drop off locations, these can be found in both the brochure and on the web site.
Where will I stay?
Our accommodation varies depending on the location and availability of suitable facilities. At the top of the range you can expect 3.5 to 4 star hotels and resorts e.g. Rydges Lakeland Resort Queenstown and Palm Royale in Cairns. Alternatively in more remote locations we stay on working cattle stations or in authentic swags under the stars. No matter what style we've selected you can be assured it's the best value option for that location. Do I have to share a room? Our tours are costed on multi-share accommodation, that is four people of the same gender to a room. We'll do our very best to ensure that you are sharing with like minded people of the same gender. A travelling rug (blanket) and inflatable pillow are also useful on camping tours.
I cannot speak English will there be a translator?
Our tours are all conducted in English, some of our Tour Leaders can speak a second language but we do not promote it as an inclusion. It is highly likely that given our diverse nationalities that one of the other passengers may be able to assist.

You will find that Connections includes most meals, with a selection and variety that will leave you stunned. If the meal is not included then we'll point you in the right direction to sample the best on offer at our overnight stay.

Our talented cooks can cater for just about anything, so long as they have enough advance warning. Just let us know what it is you require and we'll confirm our ability to meet your needs.

How much water do clients need to drink?
Some Doctors advise that between 2 and 3 litres (10-12 glasses) of water per day is essential when travelling in Northern Australia. All vehicles carry adequate water supplies.
What are the vehicles like?
Our fleet of modern air-conditioned vehicles feature reclining seats, video, and compact disc player, plenty of luggage space and spacious windows to take in the scenery. Depending on the tour and itinerary these vehicles may range from 18 seater Toyota Coaster in Tasmania up to our largest vehicles, the 34 seater mid size coaches we use for most of our other tours. No matter what the size they all share the same creature comforts to ensure a smooth pleasant ride.
How much free time will there be?
We know that holidays are about relaxation. We also know that you want to see and do as much as possible. Accordingly we have planned as much free time as possible, basically there will always be a choice to do as little or as much as you like. The one thing we cannot change is that both New Zealand and Australia have an awesome amount of great things to see and to get to most of them there will be some days that involve travelling in the coach. Where possible we have punctuated these days with two or three night stopovers at key locations so you can kick back and relax!
The nightlife:
Both Australia & New Zealand feature simply amazing nightlife. The southern skies are filled with the most amazing light shows each and every night. Whether you're under the myriad of natural splendor in the outback or the dazzling streetscape of a sophisticated city centre, there is always plenty to see and do on a Connections Adventure.
Luggage: How much luggage is allowed? We ask that clients limit their luggage. Luggage is restricted to one reasonable sized suitcase and a small airways bag. Will my bags be delivered to my room each night? If you expect porterage, then this probably isn't the adventure program for you. We'll generally try and assist where and if it's completely necessary but many of our accommodation houses are not designed for this kind of service.
What to bring: A sleeping bag is required for West Australian tours only, which is indicated on the appropriate tour page. If you do not have a sleeping bag please advise us when making your reservation as these may be hired for $25 AUD per person per tour. A travelling rug (blanket) and inflatable pillow are also useful on camping tours. A suggested clothing list can be viewed on our web-site: www.connections1835.com.au.
Clients have also present a valid ticket from us 'Australia 4 Wheel Drive Rentals' for travel to the guide at departure.

Do clients need to reconfirm their tour? Yes, passengers must contact the Reservations Department nominated on their ticket quoting their 6 digit booking number before 4pm the day prior to travel with both the name of their accommodation, room number and pick up time. Failure to do so could result in the cancellation of their booking!
