3 Day Wildlife Safari
|

|
 |
Campwild
Adventures was started by Tim and Bianca Grigg in
1998. After spending 3 ½ years travelling around Australia
and the world, they realised just how difficult it
was for the traveller visiting this beautiful country
to see the real Australia, to get off the worn out
tourist routes and into the bush.

set down by The National Parks Service.
We

3
Day Wildlife Safari Itinerary
Day
1: Our
tour starts when we pick you up from your hostel in Adelaide
at 10:00am and drive towards Kangaroo Island via the Fleurieu
Peninsula where there is great swimming, snorkelling, walks
and fantastic coastal views. During winter and cooler days
we have heaps of other options, including whale watching
at Victor Harbour, wine tasting at McLaren Vale and hiking
in Deep Creek Conservation Park.
We arrive
at Cape Jervis and jump on our own charter boat (weather
permitting) and actively search for dolphins as we cross
the Backstairs Passage to the island. We then make our way
to our private bush camp (summer) or eco hut (winter) located
on private coastal property and literally only 30 metres
from the beautiful Ante Chamber Bay Beach. Our site is
equipped with showers, toilets and a campfire.
Day
2: Our day of action, wildlife and wilderness includes
sand boarding at Little Sahara (like snowboarding on sand),
surfing and snorkelling at Vivonne Bay and optional quad
biking around the bush at sunset. We also visit Seal Bay,
where we get up close to the Sea Lions on the beach walk.
The night is spent around the campfire at our exclusive
bush camp near Vivonne Bay (or the farm house in winter).
After cooking an Aussie BBQ feast we take a nocturnal walk
and see those animals active at night, including penguins,
wallabies and possums.
Day
3: We head for a busy day in the Flinders Chase National
Park, the largest on the island. Depending on the conditions
we can choose the magnificent Ravine Des Casoars or a selection
of shorter hikes. We also visit the famous Remarkable Rocks
and Admirals Arch. Flinders Chase is home to the elusive
platypus, vast tracts of untamed wilderness and heaps of
other wildlife, which we'll do our best to see lots of.
From Flinders Chase we make our way back to Penneshaw and
return back into Adelaide at approximately 9:30pm.
Our
wildlife commitment
Our guides are committed to finding as much native wildlife
as they can in the 3 days, and then providing you with a
wealth of information. We see all wildlife in the wild and
are one of the few tours who can take you on a private beach
walk at Seal Bay instead of a ranger guided tour. Expect
to see Kangaroo, Wallabies, Australian Sea Lions, New Zealand
Fur Seals, Platypus, Echidnas, Southern Right Whales (in
season), Koalas, Dolphins, Brush Tailed Possums, Penguins,
Goannas (in season), Cockatoos and lots more.
Our wildlife activities include nocturnal walks, wild penguin
viewing on a remote beach (not a penguin parade) and platypus
viewing at black swamp lagoon.

Private
Charter Boat.
The get you to and from Kangaroo Island for the 3 day tour,
we use a private charter boat rather than the ferry, this
allows us to get to the island quicker as this boat is not
only faster, but we have greatly reduced loading time.
The best thing about the Charter boat however is the ability
to see dolphins, the body of water between Kangaroo Island
and the mainland is full of dolphins and we often see them
from the boat. It's a fantastic experience sitting on the
front of the boat when a pod of dolphins joins in and swims
with the boat, at this point you are literally metres from
the dolphins as they jump and play in the water.
Bush
Camping.
From the 1st of Nov to the 30th of April, our 3 day tour
bush camps.
We have a variety of places to camp on the island, both
by the beach and in the bush, we sleep in comfy swags under
the stars (a swag is like a bed roll, it is a thick mattress
inside a large canvas bag, you put your sleeping bag inside
the swag and throw your swag next to the campfire, your
body is covered and your head is exposed, falling asleep
looking at Australia's southern sky full of stars is an
amazing experience. If you are worried by creepy crawlies
you can relax, you are well protected in a swag.).
We have permanent shelters like that pictured to the right
in case of rain and bad weather, although sunshine and clear
skys are the norm for this time of year.
Accommodation.
Our private stone wilderness cottage is located on a 500
acre bush property at Vivone Bay on the South West coast
of the island, it borders Cape Kersaint Conservation Park
and has access to private coast and beaches. The cottage
has bunks in 2 rooms, a kitchen, common area with large
open fire, an outdoor campfire and BBQ area and shower and
toilet. It’s cosy and warm in the winter, cool in the summer
and whole property supports an abundance of Native Wildlife.

The
trip
Kangaroo Island is a fantastic place and we'll need every
bit of the 3 days to see it. The island is famous not only
for it's Kangaroos but for it's fantastic coastal scenery,
crystal clear oceans alive with Dolphins, Sea Lions, Seals
and Penguins, it's eucalyptus forests full of Koalas, Possums,
Echidnas, rare Tammar Wallabies and of coarse Kangaroos
and the elusive platypus.
The two most popular places on the island are Seal Bay and
Remarkable Rocks. As well as visiting these amazing places,
our longer trip and 4WD also gives us the time and ability
to explore the rest of the island and that's what makes
Campwild special.
It's an active trip with plenty of hiking and swimming,
we carry snorkels and masks for swimming (if you're lucky
the dolphins join in) and sand boards for some extreme action
at a place called Little Sahara. There's also the option
to do some quad bike tours from one of our campsites.
In between
the activities there's time to relax and chill out, one
of the most enjoyable chill out times is getting up early
to sit quietly by a billabong and wait for a platypus or
2 to show up. Platypus are elusive little creatures and
very few people ever see one in the wild. They're not always
guaranteed to show up at this place but if the platypus
don't then quite often something else will, either way,
it's a great time of the day to be around.
It's a small group (max 10) so you don't get lost in the
crowd and group involvement is encouraged in everything
we do. We camp in comfortable swags under the stars and
the food is good and healthy and there's plenty of it.
