Day 4WD Ayers Rock Tour
Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and Watarrka
(Kings Canyon)
|
 |
Wayoutback
offers the adventure traveller an authentic outback
camping safari with a touch of style and quality.
We'll
show you all the "must see" places like Uluru (Ayers
Rock), Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and Watarrka (Kings
Canyon) and, as importantly, we'll give you the opportunity
to really experience the desert.
|
|
Bush
camping, eating quality food cooked over a campfire
and sleeping under the clearest southern stars you
can imagine.
We'll
add a more adventurous element to the trip, leaving
the sealed road behind for a typical outback dirt
road.If
that's not outback enough, we then head 'wayoutback'
4-Wheel driving on bush tracks, across riverbeds and
over sand dunes boldly going where no other tours
dare.
|
 |
 |
One
of the most important aspects of Wayoutback is the
calibre of our tour guides. They are among the best
in Central Australia through their enthusiasm and
ability to bring people together to have the best
time.
This
is backed up with extensive local knowledge of land,
the Aboriginal (Anangu) people and history.

ITINERARY:
|
| Day
1. |
(Lunch
& Dinner)
After
picking you up from your accommodation in Alice Springs
bright and early from 5.45am, we complete ticketing and
introductions and then hit the road on our adventure of
a lifetime.
Our
journey begins heading south to Erldunda travelling through
the Waterhouse and James Ranges with a stop at The Camel
Farm for refreshments and a Camel ride if you're keen +.
We also stop at Mt Ebenezer Roadhouse where you can view
or purchase Aboriginal artifacts. On the way to Uluru (Ayers
Rock) we stop to view Atila (Mount Connor), a mesa tableland
and the first significant rock formation of our trip.
After
a stop for lunch and our arrival at the Uluru-Kata Tjuta
National Park, we head to the Cultural Centre and the opportunity
to learn about the local Aboriginal law and religion (Tjukurpa)
before a short guided walk at the base of Uluru. At this
point you can take a full base walk, climb Uluru if you
choose to do so, or join the Aboriginal guided Kuniya walk
+.
Of course
no Uluru tour would be complete without experiencing the
famous changing colours of Uluru at sunset, complete with
sparkling wine and nibbles. It's a great time to kick back
and contemplate the day and the vastness of the desert.

(Breakfast,
Lunch & Dinner)
From
a lookout close to our campsite we can view sunrise over
Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) before rolling
up the swags and heading off to Kata Tjuta for a leisurely
7km walk through the "Valley of the Winds". After a stop
at the Resort for fuel and refreshments, we're off to Kings
Creek Cattle Station for our second night's bush camp, complete
with bush toilet and shower.
With
nobody else for miles, this camp has stunning views out
over the George Gill Ranges and gives you a real feel for
the outback. Dinner around the campfire makes for a very
social time with another night out under the stars.

3. |
(Breakfast
& Lunch)
A leisurely
start to the day before we head off to Watarrka (Kings Canyon)
for a mind blowing 7km walk through the towering walls,
crevices and plateaus of Watarrka. We'll visit the Amphitheatre
and the Lost City plus a swim in the tranquil "Garden of
Eden" if you wish.
Adjacent
to Watarrka lies an Aboriginal Community called Lilla where
we stop for lunch and a break at a lovely picnic area. After
lunch one of the Luritja traditional owners, Sadie Williams
(or one of her family), will stop by to take you on a one
hour Willy Wagtail guided walk+ (optional).
After
our visit to Lilla we start making our way back to Alice
Springs travelling on a typical outback dirt road and then
4-wheel driving, crossing riverbeds and sand dunes. We'll
drop you back at your hostel/hotel early evening and usually
all meet later for a bit of a night on the town (Alice seems
like the big smoke after 3 days in the bush).
